Welcome!
I am Gail Allen from Ravenclaw and I will be your student teacher for this term.
Today we largely take numbers for granted and expect that they have always been the way they are today and that the calculations we are able to do have always been available. But there was a time where even the concept of numbers was a new invention and various systems had to be tried out to find the one best suited - which wasn't always the same, depending on the needs of the society that developed the numbers. This is what you will learn about in this class: The origin of numbers, and some notable figures who contributed to some of the early discoveries about how to manipulate these numbers, whose concepts are still in use and highly relevant today.
So welcome to this class; I hope you enjoy it!
